Waterfalls of Antalya: Reflections of the Harmony of Water, Light, and Nature

Antalya is home to many impressive waterfalls thanks to its rich water resources. The most well-known are the Düden and Kurşunlu Waterfalls. The Düden Waterfalls are fed by the Kepez Hydroelectric Power Plant and offer a unique view with their location within the city. This water source, which divides into two branches that flow into the Mediterranean Sea (Lower Düden and Upper Düden), offers visitors the opportunity to experience the power of nature and a natural beauty intertwined with the city at the same time.

The Kurşunlu Waterfalls, on the other hand, are located approximately 20 km from the city center, within a 2-kilometer-long canyon. The water from the main waterfall, which cascades from a height of 18 meters, connects seven small ponds, creating a visual feast. This area was declared a Nature Park in 1986 and is home to a rich ecosystem. The park's fauna includes animals such as wild boars, foxes, and squirrels, while its flora includes tree species such as Scots pine, Lebanon cedar, and plane trees. This natural richness reveals that the area is not only a waterfall area but also a sensitive ecological system. A historic water mill, built by villagers 200 years ago and still in operation, can also be seen inside the park.

The social and historical elements around these natural areas show that the region is not just a passive place of observation but also evidence of the interaction between humans and nature. For example, the restoration of the Kenan Evren Mansion, which was once left idle inside the park, and its transformation into a country cafe, proves that historical structures can be protected in an integrated way with natural areas and integrated into the tourism economy.
